Brooklyn Condo Blends Vintage and Modern

New York builder Steven Hurwitz, of GFI Development, recently changed direction on his Greenpoint, Brooklyn re-model. “Once the economy began to falter and crumble, and the world started to change, we decided we wanted to do back-to-basics design — something more homey and unique,” Mr. Hurwitz said.

What was the change? The initial concept was for a popular modern approach: stainless-steel appliances, granite counters and cherry wood cabinets. We think the condos’ revised interior of rough-hewn wood floors, deep farmhouse sinks and Big Chill refrigerators is a much more comfortable, homey approach. Buyers must agree, the project, called Century Vintage, has only five units left.
