April 12, 2012, Boulder, Colorado – Vintage enthusiasts kept asking Orion Creamer, co-founder of Big Chill, to make an oven that fit in small spaces. They wanted an appliance that could go in a wall, an island or even stacked vertically. The final product has a streamlined look, reminiscent of mid-century ovens but with modern functionality. “We made it pretty darn simple – it doesn’t have a complicated control panel, which I consider a plus,” Creamer said. The retro Wall Oven has four easy switches: on/off, light, temperature and convection fan.

More Baking Power
Those who love to bake can cook a turkey dinner and an apple pie at the same time. The Wall Oven stands 27 ½ inches high by itself, or 55 inches high when double-stacked. Narrow spaces in apartments, condos or small kitchens are an ideal fit. The 30 inch Wall Oven is just as wide as the Big Chill Range with comparable baking and broiling power. Heavy-duty racks fit a full-size commercial 18” x 26” baking sheet.

The inside of the retro Wall Oven is as straightforward as the outside. A traditional black and white stipple pattern decorates the large oven cavity. The convection fan circulates heat and air for even baking while the light switch lets the chef check what’s going on. Additionally, the wall oven has a removable interior bottom for easy cleaning.

This vintage Wall Oven comes in eight standard colors plus over 200 custom colors. Choose from pink lemonade, orange, cherry red, classic white, buttercup yellow, beach blue, jadite green and classic black. With these bright colors, the oven can become the focal point of a kitchen. The Wall Oven has a stamped metal exterior with chrome accents while the interior is custom built by one of the country’s leading appliance manufacturers.

Brooklyn Condo Blends Vintage and Modern

New York builder Steven Hurwitz, of GFI Development, recently changed direction on his Greenpoint, Brooklyn re-model. “Once the economy began to falter and crumble, and the world started to change, we decided we wanted to do back-to-basics design — something more homey and unique,” Mr. Hurwitz said.

What was the change? The initial concept was for a popular modern approach: stainless-steel appliances, granite counters and cherry wood cabinets. We think the condos’ revised interior of rough-hewn wood floors, deep farmhouse sinks and Big Chill refrigerators is a much more comfortable, homey approach. Buyers must agree, the project, called Century Vintage, has only five units left.

It’s long been known that remodeling your kitchen makes the single biggest impact on the value of your home. Here at Big Chill, we’ve been using our site to help our customers with their purchasing decisions for years now. Over that period of time, the site has grown and evolved to satisfy the changing market place. By listening to you, we’ve learned what elements would aide you in your purchasing decisions. When it became apparent that in addition to a retro fridge, a vintage inspired kitchen needs an accompanying retro dishwasher, we produced it. This fall, a retro stove followed.

As our founder, Orion Creamer puts it, “Our new shopping cart was born from necessity. Most of our customers know exactly what they want before calling to place their order. With our limited hours of operation, it’s difficult to keep up with consumer demand. This new shopping cart lets customers also order at night or on the weekends, at their convenience.”
